What is Powder Coating?
Powder Coating, often called “dry” painting, is an advanced method of applying a decorative and protective finish to a wide range of materials and products that are used by both industries and consumers. It is an environmentally friendly process which offers finishes in a wide variety of styles and colors. Recent advancements in powder coating technology have made it available for use on a vast range of products.
Powder coating is an environmentally friendly process unlike solvent-based wet paint systems. Liquid paints often contain solvents, which can contribute to air pollution and, in some cases, ozone depletion. Powder used for powder coating does not contain any solvents and releases negligible amounts of VOCs into the atmosphere, resulting in no air pollution. The transfer efficiency of modern powder coating processes results in significantly less overspray and the material that doesn't adhere to the part can be easily captured in filters and simply vacuumed/swept up and disposed of with, like any other household waste. Furthermore, many wet painting processes generate significant volumes of semi-solid waste sludge which must be disposed of in hazardous waste landfills. Modern powder coating materials generate no such hazardous waste.
What is Media Blasting, or "Sandblasting"?
Sandblasting uses compressed air to "blast" fine sand or other very abrasive, high grit materials through a nozzle and at the object desired to be sandblasted. These abrasive materials quickly remove the surface of the object leaving a clean surface.
